AASU CRIME STATISTICSThe Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (originally known as the Campus Security Act) was enacted by the United States Congress and signed into law by President George Bush in 1990. It is named in memory of 19-year old Lehigh University freshman Jeanne Ann Clery who was assaulted and murdered while asleep in her residence hall in 1986. This law requires us and all institutional officials with significant responsibility for campus and student affairs to publicly disclose 3 years of campus crime statistics. Statistics pertaining to Part I Criminal Offenses Reported and Forcible or Non-forcible Sex Offenses reported as required by the Crime Awareness and Campus Security Act of 1990 and the Higher Education Amendments of 1992 have been compiled as indicated below. OFF-CAMPUS CRIME STATISTICS Local law enforcement agencies formally report statistics of crimes against students in their Uniform Crime Report to the Georgia Crime Information Center by including the identification of any victim who is a student and the school attended by any such student. However, since all campus organizations are housed within the jurisdiction of the AASU Public Safety Department, all crime statistics generated from these locations are monitored and reported by the Public Safety Department. Specific information is reciprocated to these agencies for investigative purposes on a case by case basis. Since Armstrong Atlantic State University is encompassed by the City of Savannah, statistics pertaining to Part I Criminal Offenses reported by the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department are listed below. These statistics are provided for informational purposes for those members of the campus community who may live, work or conduct other business off-campus.
