INVESTIGATIVE AND CRIME PREVENTION DIVISION

All criminal reports requiring further latent investigation are referred to the Investigation Division. Reports of sexual offenses are treated with the same seriousness as all other reported offenses. Investigations of reported sexual offenses are actively pursued with assistance of a victim advocate with the utmost concern for the dignity of the victim. All acts of racial or religious violence or threats are viewed as serious. All situations that have potential racial implications are reported to the Director for Multicultural Affairs.

The University Police Department's Crime Prevention Unit works closely with the divisions of the university to provide all members of the community with timely crime prevention programs and seminars to help individuals protect themselves both on and off campus. Personal safety, date rape prevention and property protection are but a few of the subjects presented. The Crime Prevention Unit also conducts lighting surveys to ensure sufficient campus lighting at night. The University Police assists Plant Operations personnel by reporting potential safety and security hazards. In conjunction with the Crime Prevention Unit's efforts, the Uniformed Patrol Division provides on-campus escorts.

The University Police Department has eight emergency call boxes in place throughout the University. These call boxes allow direct communication from the caller to police emergency dispatchers 24 hours a day. Your emergency is then relayed from police dispatchers to on duty U.P.D. Police Officers. Click on the Emergency Call Box link for a detailed map of call box locations and instructions on how to use the phones.
